Letter #119: Dreaming of a Freaking Fairytale

Good morning, Erin. Y’know, I was excited to see that IU reunited with You’re the Best co-star Jo Jung-suk for an interview on her YouTube channel…but I’d be lying if I said this was the reunion I got the most excited for this week—because I just found out that the Pop Star and the Pop Star’s Ex from Transit Love 3 got back together! I knew those crazy kids would find their way back to each other.  Does that mean I’m not still a little frowny over how he picked My Girl—like I wanted him to—even though he was clearly not feeling it at the time he made his final decision? Of course not. BUT…this double-confirms that she’s single, which is great news for me. Who is also single. And, sure, will probably never meet her nor impress her, if I do. But there’s still a non-zero chance that it could happen, which is the best bet I’ve got!  Then again, maybe I should just finagle a new job at a place frequented by hot, young, rich singles looking to slum it with verbose anime nerds....

Letter #118: Agents of Mystery

Good morning, Erin. Earlier this week, I took my car to the dealership for its annual inspection and, apparently, to take care of the four separate recall notices that had been issued for it in the last several months. Because of the amount of time that would need to go into this smorgasbord of automotive repair, the nice people at Hyundai told me that I would not be able to just hang around and wait for them to finish up (as I normally would for an inspection), so they said they would drop me off at work in the morning after I brought the car in and would pick me up in the afternoon after the repairs were completed. Which I know isn’t all that special a service for them to provide, but which I still very much appreciated.  Of course, it felt a little less special when I realized they weren’t so much dropping me off as they were calling me an Uber.  Now, I’ve never used Uber, before, so I don’t know if this is a common experience or just coincidentally true of both rides I too...

Letter #117: Pyramid Game

Good morning, Erin. I have a hilarious story to share with you about something that happened involving me that…okay, probably isn’t going to seem all that funny to you without, like, a huge amount of context, now that I think about it, but it tangentially has to do with Kiss of Life and YouTube and involves pair of tiny denim shorts, and I promise it’s hilarious if you know the context, so, um, just assume I’ve told you the story and its context and that you’ve found it hilarious.  …which, realistically, is probably how you wish all my preamble stories would go, isn’t it. Hmm. I’m kidding—I know they’re your favorite part!  But, even so, I want to jump as quickly as possible into talking about Pyramid Game —and I really, really hope you were able to watch it, Erin, because it is AWESOME. I’m not planning to spoil anything, but…golly, I’d like to. This one’s a keeper. 1. No, seriously—it’s terrific. Which, I mean, I’m as surprised as you are. I went into it expecting little, m...
