Deep within the recesses of his unconscious mind, the Council of Daryls meets to discuss the reorganization of one of his “K-Drama Faves” lists…
 
"Okay, gentlemen, today we’re discussing where to place NJ on our list of favorites."
"Well, currently, the list starts with the daughter from Vincenzo, then Ms. Jang from Hotel Del Luna, then Eun-tak from Goblin, then—"
"Wait, where's Good Boy? Shouldn't he be in third place?"
"He's not on this list. This is for #bestgirl and crushes."
"...I have a crush on him."
"Stop that."
"It's 2022—I'm allowed!"
"Look, we've talked about th—"
"He's precious!"
"Focus, gentlemen! NJ. Where do we think she lands?"
"I vote third."
"Gasp! But Eun-tak is adorable!"
"And NJ is amazing."
"Purge the heretic!"
"Hey, I love Eun-tak, I'm just suggesting—"
"PURGE THE HERETIC."
"Stop that—I'm just suggesting that NJ is a more compelling character than she is."
"How dare you."
"Can someone explain why Lee Ji-eun isn't all the spots?"
"Sigh..."
"Actually, he might have a point about tha—"
"I said focus!"
"Hey, when did we agree that the daughter from Vincenzo was in the top spot?"
"..."
"..."
"...get the 'purge the heretic' guy back in here."
"I still say NJ tops Eun-tak."
"How? Did we not all swoon every time she waved?"
"NJ's smile beats Eun-tak's wave."
"...you take that back."
"Make me."
"Is there a scene where NJ waves? Can we compare the two?"
"And, what, then look to see if there's a scene where Eun-tak smiles?"
"She smiles all the time."
"Yeah, it's adorable."
"...Good Boy has a nice smile."
"Dude."
"HE'S PRECIOUS!"
"Enough. I'm calling it here: all in favor of slotting NJ in the third sp—"
"Wait, did we ever see the daughter from Vincenzo in a floppy beach hat?"
"I will punch you in the face."
"NJ never made us cry."
"Oo, good point."
"...swooning is a kind of crying."
"Shut up. It is not."
"And she doesn't have as much to do as Eun-tak."
"That's not...well, okay, maybe."
"But her smiiiiiiile!!!"
"Purge the heret—"
"Stop that."
"Is anyone open to having them tie for third?"
"..."
"..."
"Dude."
"I know, I'm sorry."
"All right—like I said, I'm calling it: all in favor of moving NJ to third and dropping Eun-tak to fourth, raise your ha—"
"Wait, I have a question."
"...what?"
"How many of us are there that we can know what a majority vote is?"
"..."
"..."

Letter #151: Coffee Prince

Good morning, Erin. Happy Valentine’s Day! …by which I mean this was supposed to be my Valentine’s gift to you, were it not for the…um, exciting start to February mucking up my carefully-planned schedule for 2025.  But—alas!—it was not meant to be, as is the case with so many of my plans. And, galled though I am that it has even indirectly affected you, there is nothing to be done about it.  …except repackage it as your birthday gift HAPPY BIRTHDAY, SEONBAE!!!   And what better way to celebrate than with another one of your actual recommendations: Coffee Prince . Which, though I knew it was an older show, I was shocked to see was from 2007. And then twice as shocked when I saw who was in it— but back in 2007 . Time’s a funny thing, Erin. Letter #108: Transit Love 3

Good morning, Erin. I hate having to wait a week for each new episode of the dating shows I watch. It’s fun to keep up with the rest of the world (though we will revisit this topic later), and the weeklong anticipation buildup makes it undeniably exciting when the new episode drops—but I’d much, much rather be able to consume these at my own ravenous pace.  However… The one thing I genuinely enjoy about the wait between episodes, though, is that it allows me time to recap each new episode to…well, to whomever I can sucker into listening, of course, but (relevant to this letter) to Theresa at work. I love reliving the episode in my head, organizing the events into a story that someone who isn’t watching can not just follow but connect back to the discussions from previous weeks, and essentially performing a monologue for an audience.
